| Beyond Cherokee--On The Blue Ridge Parkway |

January 24th 2009 - The Blue Ridge Parkway was a gigantic construction task. It spans over four hundred miles from the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina to Virginia. Building of the Parkway began in the 1930"s. The Parkway is a super scenic drive in all directions. The high elevations allow for wide panoramic views making the Blue Ridge Parkway a special trip. Also there are multiple walking trails off the highway wih signpost markers showing the distance and skill level of each trail. Maggie Valley, North Carolina rides along the south side of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The climate is perfect for many flowering trees and landscape. There are masses of the white and red dogwood and flanked by the very attractive redbud trees. This county covers a large area of the Smoky Mountain Park where it meets up with the Blue Ridge Parkway. Maggie Valley gets its name because of the increase of population at the time, they were in need of a post office.The name was deceided when one of the men submitted the names of his three daughters and the one named Maggie was chosen. |
