Beyond Cherokee--On The Blue Ridge Parkway
January 24th 2009 -
The Blue Ridge Parkway was a gigantic construction task. It spans over  four hundred miles
from the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina to Virginia. Building of the Parkway began in
the 1930"s. The Parkway is a super scenic drive in all directions. The high elevations allow for
wide panoramic views making the Blue Ridge Parkway a special trip. Also there are multiple
walking trails off the highway wih signpost markers showing the distance and skill level of each
trail. Maggie Valley, North Carolina rides along the south side of the Great Smoky Mountain
National Park. The climate is perfect for many flowering trees and landscape. There are masses
of the white and red dogwood and flanked by the very attractive redbud trees. This county covers
a large area of the Smoky Mountain Park where it meets up with the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Maggie Valley gets its name because of the increase of population at the time, they were in need
of a post office. The  name was deceided when one of the men submitted the names of his three
daughters and the one named Maggie was chosen.
